211
is a three-digit phone number to access comprehensive information and
referral (I&R) services in a community. For example, a resident in
need of rental, utility, child care or other human and health services
can anonymously dial 211 and be connected to a live, professionally trained
I&R specialist. The I&R specialist will refer the caller to the
appropriate local agency(ies) that can meet his or her needs.
How does it work?
Simply dial 2-1-1 from any residential telephone. This service is currently only available for cellular customers of Centennial Wireless. Your call is connected to First Call For Help in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. All calls are answered with a live answer by a professionally trained/certified information and referral specialist who will help identify and locate area services that can address your specific needs. Your call is free, anonymous and confidential!
How
are 2-1-1 services funded?
2-1-1 Services
are offered free to LaGrange County residence through partnerships with
other LaGrange County organizations. Since its introduction in LaGrange
County in late 2004, 2-1-1 services have been made available to the residence
of LaGrange County through a partnership between the LaGrange County Community
Foundation and the United Fund of LaGrange County.
The number of families
who have sought our assistance in this program over the past couple of years
has opened our eyes to how real this need is in LaGrange County. There
are many families who cannot afford these materials and we want to give
each child the chance to start out this school year with the supplies
they need to be successful in school. Our goal is to be able
to provide 500 LaGrange County students with these much needed supplies.
But we cannot do this alone. We are in need of school supplies and backpacks
or monetary donations to purchase these items.
Any monetary donations can be sent to the United Fund of LaGrange County, P.O. Box 203, LaGrange, IN 46761. Please indicate “Pack-a-Backpack” on the memo line of your check.
